On a historical day about 560 B.C. Anatolian Greek from Milet came for the first time to the nowadays Sozopol peninsula. They were protected by Apolon and they were leaded by the ancient Greek philosopher Anaxemander who was carrying the sacred fire from his country’s rectorate. They founded the town-country Apolonia. It grew and formed alike the ancient Greek town-countries. Apolonia was called Sozopol in 330 B.C. when the Christian religion was established as the only one afforded religion in the Roman Empire.
Nowadays Sozopol is one of the most attractive tourist centres of Bulgaria combining past and present. You will feel the wisdom of the ages and you will touch the Bulgarian spirit recreated in crafts, dances and painting here – along the beach of Sozopol.

* Great beaches – Central and Harmani – with fine golden sand and warm sea water, which are divided by steep slopes with queer rock phenomena and archaeological finds. * Walk along the ancient fortress wall encircling the ancient town and numerous archaeological findings from the ancient past; visit to the archaeological museum where rare cookware from IV up to VI B.C. are kept, stone cauldrons from XX B.C. and a collection of 120 amphora’s are kept.
* Walk along the narrow cobblestone streets of the ancient town, among picturesque bay houses and restaurants built with wood and stone.
* Abundance of restaurants and cafes on the seaside streets where you will enjoy the traditional Bulgarian dishes and the amazing view over the sea.
* Summer cinemas, discotheques and bars on the sand.
* For the youngest – unforgettable evenings in the town’s park with a lot of swings, cars, springing in the air, painting on plaster figures, ride on a pony.
* Opportunity for trips to the National park “Strandja”: Ride on a small ship along the Ropotamo river in the National sanctuary ”Ropotamo”, walk in the park “Water lilies” at the mouth of the Ropotamo river. Visit to the aqua park in Primorsko, Sunny Beach or Nessebar and a lot of other trips.
* Unique Bohemian atmosphere of the town attracts a lot of cultural events in the summer months. The culmination takes place during the first ten days of September every year – The Feasts of the arts “Apolonia” when famous musicians, artists and people with poetic souls from all over the world gather here.
